Graduation Day!!

Or: I'm sorry I'm behind on posts (violence is not the answer).

So, I graduated from an infertility patient to a certified OB patient. (Cards, money and gifts will be accepted).

After a sleepless night of worry that I was carrying an entire sports team in my ute, we made it to our appointment on time, legs ready to be spread, vag ready to be violated.

The appointment went well, with some laughs over a possible threat of vaginal violence...

Nurse: I'm just going to turn on the fan, it gets hot in here.

*Fan makes metal on metal crazy crashing noise*

Nurse: Don't worry, I won't hurt you or anything, I know that noise sounds scary.

Me: Hey, as long as you keep that fan away from my Lady Business, we'll be fine.

While she lubed up the magic wand, she made small talk. "How many embryos did you transfer?" "Oh, just two..."

So in goes the wand, and for a minute we're not really sure what we're looking at. And after she worked her way all around my innards she said the magic words:

There it is - One baby!

ONE BABY! OUR BABY!

Let's admit one thing right now: it looks like a blur of nothing at this point. But still, it felt so much more real right then. That is a baby, growing inside of me!

I've waited so long for that very moment - confirmation that yes, I'm pregnant. Finally. And I didn't know how I would react...tears? Sobs? Screams? I just didn't know.

I wanted to laugh out loud.
I can't remember being that happy. Ever.

We saw the heart flicker, then we briefly heard the heartbeat. I could listen to that ALL DAY LONG. It was the coolest thing. My first failure as a mother - I forgot to ask what the heart rate was. (Luckily, I don't think this fuck up will require future therapy for the baby...)

I measured exactly 7 weeks, which was 5 days behind what I thought, but she said it will probably change at some point. The baby looked healthy!

Official Due Date: 2/24/08

So I am now a graduate, and my first task is to find an OB. Or decide if I want to use my regular gynecologist.

Here's a vacation picture...since I will probably never do a vacation post because I am a tired, barfy whore.

You have a BABY in there!!! That is so exciting, and hearing the heartbeat must be the most amazing feeling. Congratulations again!

You both look so happy!
I'm thrilled to pieces to hear about your baby. I'm also little surprised to hear that it's a singleton (and not a herd of wildebeests)after that insane beta.
Honestly, I was PETRIFIED when I learned that we were having IVF twins. Even though I was obviously happy, multiple pregnancy is very scary. When we lost one (very early) to vanishing twin, well, it was hard, but the singleton pregnancy was smooth sailing afterward.
Here's to a happy and healthy pregnancy for you and your baby. Congratulations!

I am out of lurking to say CONGRATS! CONGRATS! I remember the first time I saw my daughter's heartbeat, it was an amazing feeling! I have been checking in all day to see your results! I am soo happy for you! You need to get a PREGNANCY TICKER! I loved watching mine when I was pregnant. I love the ones on babygaga.com-if you chose "weekly text-humor" It tells you funny things as the baby grows-for 7 weeks it says-"Ah morning sickness! Right about now Mommy's realizing she needs to clean the toilet a little better. I'm 7 weeks & 2 days old, only 229 days to go!" Have a happy and healthy pregnancy! :)

Hooray!

Mine measured behind at the first ultrasound too. But it was caught up and ahead like two weeks later (leading me to believe that they measured poorly the first time).

I didn't get a heartrate at my first like four ultrasounds. I just saw that there was one and burst into tears.

Yeah for you! One squish-able baby will be heading your way soon! You guys must be so thrilled and excited. Here's a baby shopping warning...no matter how many soft, adorable baby blankets you stock up on, the ugliest one will be THE blanket that baby insists on dragging around at age 2. :)

As far as the reunion:
1. Yep, we were in the same class. Sorry if you are an alumni with nothing but good memories, but school pretty much sucked ass for me.
2. Umm...popular girl? I didn't have too many classes with you the last few years. I'm basing my guess on middle school!

I hope you keep up with your blog and come over to the dark side...uh, I mean, the mommy side. You are hilarious!

Congrats! I have been waiting (very impatiently) for the update. Your due date is the day after my birthday!

Congratulations on your graduation!

You really should get a diploma considering the number of hours (weeks, years) and $$$ spent getting to this point are certainly equal to the time/costs of a "real" degree. Perhaps a MIF (Masters of Infertility) would be appropriate?

I know I knew about this.... but here I am sitting at work and trying VERY hard not to be a big sobbing mess! I'm so happy for you..... I can't even tell you how happy for you I am.

Major Congratulations once again!!
I imagined perhaps you were wanting this little bundle this year--but, the estimated due date is indeed: 2/24/09 (That's my clumsy approach to correcting your typo) :o)
Great Photo!

Cheers & God Bless
Anna

Congratulations on your graduation!! :)

And you and I officially have the same due date, for the time being. Although I think mine will get pushed back.
But we can celebrate 2/24 for now! :)

(Courtney) YAY!!! So glad the news is so great and smiling so broadly at your rapturous descriptions of hearing that little baby's heartbeat. Like so many, I clicked on this site about a zillion times and it is wonderful to FINALLY see an update and so many kinds of wonderful to see such a glowingly happy, happy, happy graduation party when that update was finally posted. You look great in your photo and you are just GLOWING in your posts! So happy for you both!

Congrats, girly!
That little flicker is just the most beautiful sight in the entire world, right?
I am a barfy whore with you. Literally trying not to barf right now thinking about barf.
Glad everything is going so well. ;)
*hugs*

Congratulations!!! I can just imagine how happy you are. Don't worry about the 5 days. My tech told me that at only 7 weeks it can be hard to measure exactly. Can't wait til I'm listening to my little one's heart beat. Walmart has heart monitors for $20 so you can hear it whenever you want once it gets strong enough.

Congrats on your little one, and your graduation. You can now turn your tassle from the right to the left, or however the hell that works. ;) Good luck

Yay!!! I was so happy reading this post... as if I was there... but up near your head, not near your Lady Business.

You're gonna have to purchase one of those "hear your baby's heartbeat in utero whenever you want" machines... they're like $40 or something. Then you truly can listen to it all day long!! Sometimes I think of buying one. And while I wait for pregnancy, I can just listen to my digestive tract... which often sounds like Willy Wonka's 7-Course Meal Chewing Gum Machine. I shit you not.

Anyway, congrats!!
